Lake Huron Medical Center congratulates Daisy Award Recipient Cari Buckmaster, RN. The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses is recognized in 2,400 healthcare facilities in the United States and fourteen different countries.

Cari works as a Referral Coordinator and has been a member of the Lake Huron Medical Center team since March 2012. She uses her emergency medicine background to carefully screen patients for admission to the Rehab Unit and to help in continued assessment of their medical needs during inpatient rehab stays. She will stay late; come in early and on weekends – whatever it takes – to help facilitate patient admissions to rehab.

Cari goes above and beyond, generates enthusiasm and exemplifies our mission, vision and values. She has a positive, professional attitude, excellent interpersonal skills with and coworkers and act as a role model to the nursing profession. She collaborates daily with members not only from our healthcare team but with those from other facilities as well. Her critical thinking skills help work through obstacles and allows for admissions to inpatient rehab.

“Cari’s leadership and nursing style creates an environment which fosters care, trust, and compassion with her patients and peers,” comments Ken Sanger, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, Lake Huron Medical Center. “She promotes the culture which allows Lake Huron Medical Center to provide exceptional care, and is the kind of nurse that inspires you to give your best every day.”

The Daisy Award was created 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes who died of complications of the auto-immune disease ITP. The Barnes’ wanted to do something special to honor their son and came up with the name DAISY-an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. What continually resonated for them was the extraordinary care, kindness and compassion Patrick and the family received from his nurses during his illness.

Lake Huron Medical Center thanks Cari for everything he does each and every day to provide our patients and their families with high-quality, compassionate care.
